Childcare Sufficiency Assessment
The Childcare Act 2006 requires local authorities in Wales to carry out a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment to better understand parents/carers’ use of childcare, the overall supply of childcare in the borough and any factors likely to affect demand for childcare. The information that is gathered is used to create an action plan for Torfaen’s Childcare Team and the wider actions of the Council regarding childcare.
A full Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, including consultation with parents/carers, employers, children and young people, childcare providers and other professionals, is carried out every five years. An update on the assessment, looking at supply and demand, is carried out every year.
The Childcare Sufficiency Assessment 2022 can be viewed here, supporting e-sessions on parental views can also be found here.
The Gap Analysis Report includes an action plan to address the gaps and promote the strengths identified in the assessment.
