Playgroups / Cylchoedd Meithrin
Playgroups and Cylchoedd Meithrin can admit children from the age of 2 ½ years on a sessional basis of not more than four hours in any one day. They offer a safe and stimulating environment where children play, learn and socialise with each other. All playgroups operating for more than 2 hours a day must register with Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW). Unlike Parent and Toddler groups, parents do not stay on the premises. Most playgroups are run by a committee of parents along with members of staff.
Cylchoedd Meithrin offers pre-school experiences through the medium of Welsh. You may wish for your child to attend a cylch meithrin if you plan for your child to receive a Welsh medium education. However, children do not need to speak Welsh before attending .
Some Playgroups and Cylchoedd Meithrin are registered to provide part-time nursery education funded by the Local Authority from the term after a child’s 3rd birthday.
