How often is the brown caddy collected?
Your food waste is collected weekly in your brown caddy.
What goes in the brown caddy?
Yes please
- Teabags and coffee grounds
- Eggshells
- Fruit skins and vegetable peelings
- Raw and cooked meat and fish, including bones
- Leftovers
- Food that’s no longer safe to eat
No thank you
- Packaging of any kind
- Liquids such as milk
- Liquid oils or fats
- Any material that’s not food waste
- No animal food
Tips
- You can use supermarket carrier bags or bread bags if you run out of free council caddy liners
- Tie your food waste liners or bags securely
- Make sure to regularly empty your caddy to keep it free from smells and odours
- Closing the lid of your kitchen caddy will stop flies getting in, and odours getting out
- Close the lid on your food waste caddy when putting it out for collections

Missed collections
If your caddy was at the collection point by 7am on the day of collection but was not emptied, please let us know immediately by completing the report a missed collection form and we will make arrangements to collect it as soon as possible.

I need a new brown caddy/caddy liners, what can I do?
You can visit one of our recycling container collection hubs which stock recycling boxes, bags, caddies and caddy liners if you need more. A maximum of two recycling boxes, caddies, or bags can be collected per visit.
If you are a blue badge holder, on assisted collections, or are genuinely unable to visit the hubs due to medical, or other reasons, the items can be delivered on request.

What will happen to my food waste after collection?
Once we have collected your food waste, it is taken to a special processing facility where it is treated in an enclosed vessel. As the food breaks down, the temperature is carefully controlled to ensure that the finished product is completely sterile.
