Additional Learning Needs in pre-school

If your child has not started school yet but you are concerned about their learning or behaviour you should first talk things over with your health visitor, childminder or early year’s provider.

Quite a lot of children will struggle with their development and early intervention could be provided to help them.

We have an early support panel which provides help and early support to families with pre-school children with possible emerging needs. The panel aims to join up the multi-agency support making full use of systems and resources available.

Person-centred planning meetings

The early years provision may decide to hold a person-centred meeting to gather information and put a plan in place to support your child.

They will discuss what is important to the child and the family, what support they think they need and their hopes for the future, which will help create a One Page Profile for your child.

Where following early intervention and support and reviews of the one-page profile it is felt your child may have ALN. The setting can request the Local authority to undertake an ALN assessment to determine if your child needs an Individual development plan.

Alternatively, you can request an additional learning needs assessment from the local authority by emailing AdditionalLearningNeeds@torfaen.gov.uk.
