Transport emissions
About a third of UK carbon emissions come from transport, including vehicles, trains and aeroplanes.
Electric vehicles
Electric vehicles are typically cheaper to run and maintain and produce fewer emissions than petrol or diesel.
You can install your own electric vehicle charging point if you have off-street parking.
If you live in a house with on-street parking, you will need to use a public EV charging point.
There are public charging points across the borough to help drivers switch to EV cars. Download the Charge Assist app to find your nearest one.
Active travel
If it isn’t far – leave the car!
Active travel means replacing short essential car journeys with a walk or bike ride if you can.
Walking or cycling has benefits for the environment, communities and individuals.
Find out how we are improving walking and cycling routes on our Active Travel pages.
If it isn’t practical to walk or cycle the whole journey, you could drive part of the way and walk the rest. Park and stride journeys can help reduce congestion and emissions in built up areas like towns and outside schools.
Public transport
Cwmbran Railway Station has parking, EV charging points and access for bikes. The new Pontypool and New Inn Railway Station car park will also have EV charging points and bike access. More information about local railway stations.
The council applies for funding from the Welsh Government Local Transport Fund to improve bus stops and infrastructure.
Information about bus and train times is available on bus operators’ websites and National Rail Enquiries
