Pontypool and New Inn Station
A project to transform Pontypool and New Inn Station, which is 1.5 miles from Pontypool town centre, is due to be completed in winter 2024.
The scheme, which includes significant station and platform improvements, including a footbridge and lift from new parking facilities, was expected to cost £7.1m but final costs are being finalised with the principal contractor and other partners.
The integrated park and ride facility will include 11 accessible parking bays, 3 with EV charging, 11 EV charging bays, 129 general use spaces, 3 drop off or taxi bays, 1 bus bay, 6 motorcycle bays and 8 new secure bike spaces, in additional to the 20 existing bike spaces.
The project is being carried out jointly with Network Rail and Transport for Wales. It is being funded by Torfaen Council, the Welsh Government and Cardiff Capital Region.
It will be one of the first Cardiff Capital Region Metro Plus schemes to be delivered.
The project aims to increase the number of people using the station and strengthens the case for more frequent services bringing opportunities for economic growth in the area.
It will also encourage more sustainable travel and help residents who don’t own cars to access work, training or education.
Cwmbran Train Station
Cwmbran train station is 0.5 miles outside Cwmbran town centre.
There is a ticket office and ticket machine, a station café and toilets with baby changing facilities.
The car park has 76 spaces and storage for six bicycles. There is a taxi rank directly outside the station.
