Pontypool and New Inn Station

A new park and ride facility at Pontypool and New Inn Station is due to open in early 2025.

Work on the project has been completed, including additional maintenance needed to address historical issues with the platform which delayed the opening.

It is hoped the new facility will be opened by Network Rail in January 2025, pending approval from the UK Government's Office of Rail and Road.

The integrated park and ride facility will include 11 accessible parking bays, 3 with EV charging, 11 EV charging bays, 129 general use spaces, 3 drop off or taxi bays, 1 bus bay, 6 motorcycle bays and 8 new secure bike spaces, in additional to the 20 existing bike spaces.

The project is being carried out jointly with Network Rail and Transport for Wales. It is being funded by Torfaen Council, the Welsh Government and Cardiff Capital Region.

It will be one of the first Cardiff Capital Region Metro Plus schemes to be delivered.

The project aims to increase the number of people using the station and strengthens the case for more frequent services bringing opportunities for economic growth in the area.

It will also encourage more sustainable travel and help residents who don’t own cars to access work, training or education.
