Food Business Start-Up Grants
The Start-Up Grant is designed to support new and emerging businesses, with a particular emphasis on food enterprises that bring innovation, sustainability, and added value to local food systems.
The grant aims to:
- Encourage the development of new food businesses with creative ideas for adding value to produce.
- Support diversification of existing operations into food-related ventures.
- Foster the creation of sustainable food networks and supply chains.
Torfaen County Borough Council has a great opportunity for new and developing food businesses to apply for grants up to £5,000.
Who can apply?
- Individuals seeking support to launch a new food business enterprise.
- Individuals operating a newly established or early-stage business that is in the process of development.
Criteria
Businesses will need to demonstrate how their project contributes to one or more of the following Torfaen Good Food Priorities:
- Our Health
- Our Community
- Our Jobs
- Our Education
- Our Future
Applicants will be required to:
- Submit a relevant business plan or agree to be referred for support in developing one
- Be engaged with Torfaen Environmental Health team
While this grant is open to all food businesses, it does not support projects that are solely aimed at increasing the production of products high in fat, salt and sugar.
Eligible Activities
We can support a range of projects including:
- Training and Development
- Equipment, including IT
- Marketing
- White Goods
- Product Development
Other items may be considered
Project Costs
Revenue funding, max £5,000.
All grants require a minimum of 20% match from the applicant.
How does it work?
Those applying to be a part of this scheme will need to bring an innovative idea that supports the development of your food business and demonstrates that there are clear benefits and sustainable outcomes for the project.
You will be responsible for the management and running of the project. You will be required to evidence all spend towards the project.
Application Timescales
This is an open call, and the fund will remain open until 5pm on Monday 3rd November 2025. Decisions will be made by an external panel. All projects must be completed by the 31st January 2026. Applications should be fully completed and submitted along with a supporting Business Plan
