Declaration of Members Interests
Councillors have to declare any personal interests they may have when discussing or deciding upon council business. Certain circumstances require them to leave the meeting room when that particular item is being discussed. More details on this can be found in the Council’s Constitution, Appendix 1 – the Councillors Code of Conduct.
A copy of the personal interests declared by members at council meetings is contained in a Register of Personal Interests declared at Council Meetings maintained by the Council's Democratic and Members Service Team and is available on request from them on 01495 766057.
Separately, under the Members' Code of Conduct, members are required to register financial and other interests as defined in para 10(2)(a) of the Code of Conduct with the Monitoring Officer. The Register of Member Interests 2022 - 2027 is available here or a paper copy is available for public inspection by appointment by contacting the Monitoring Officer on 01495 742660.
Members may apply to the Council’s Ethics and Standards Committee for a dispensation to speak and/or vote on matters where they have an interest in a particular item of Council business – a prejudicial interest. Details of dispensations granted will be shown either through the minutes of that Committee or by reference to the attached Register of Dispensations Granted to Members and Appendices to the Register of Dispensations Granted to Members.
In addition, members must notify the Monitoring Officer of any gift or hospitality above the value of £25. A Register of Gifts and Hospitality 2022 - 2027 is available here or a paper copy is available for public inspection by appointment by contacting the Monitoring Officer on 01495 742660
