The actions taken to promote active travel journeys

  • Create and approve a new post for the appointment of an Active Travel officer to promote active travel and manage the AT consultations
  • Complete update active  travel route assessments on ERM and INM routes to identify improvements required
  • Active travel emphasis in communications to Councillors and residents on SRiC and AT schemes being developed and constructed
  • Active travel emphasis in Torfaen Highways responses to residents enquiries
  • Stronger emphasis on AT provision when reviewing new development requests
  • Identify, design and install AT route signage improvements
  • Continued to deliver National Standards cycle training and the traditional cycling proficiency training which provides young cyclists with the necessary training to be safer and more competent cyclists
  • Support schools generally with walk & cycle to school  messages
  • Support individual schools with communications to address school gate congestion concerns
  • Frequent messages encouraging walking & cycling during the Covid19 pandemic in conjunction with supporting pedestrian and cyclist safety and social distancing guidance

The actions taken to secure new active travel routes and related facilities and improvements

  • New permanent and temporary active travel improvement schemes through special Covid19 funding.
  • ATF Core allocation funding to:
    • Upgrade and widen short-cut route to 3 local primary schools and Park at Sandybrook, Cwmbran
    • New section of walk to school route to Abersychan comprehensive school.
    • Walking route safety improvements for vulnerable pedestrians in Croesyceiliog.
    • Dropped Kerb (DK) improvements on basic network in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran to improve access for all to village centre.
    • Continue design work on Oakfield AT network, Edlogan way phase2, Cwmbran stadium path, A4042 AT route.
    • Complete an assessment of AT route monitoring counters
  • Commence design of SRiC scheme at Llantarnam Primary school and construction of   ‘feeder’ path linking to the main route of the scheme.
  • Walking improvements to bus infrastructure
