A summer of fun

Posted on: Friday 18 July 2025

From playschemes, creative arts and scoot fit sessions, to animal encounters, sensory play and youth trips, this year’s Summer of Fun is shaping up to be one of the best yet.

Running from Monday 21 July through to early September, the programme is open to children and young people aged 0–25 across Torfaen and offers a wide range of activities.

Some of the highlights of this year’s programme include:

  • Summer Play & Activities Camps with Torfaen Play Service
  • Youth clubs, outdoor activities and young person led trips with Torfaen Youth Service.
  • Story, craft and Lego sessions with Torfaen Libraries
  • Baby and toddler pop in and play sessions with Torfaen Early Years.

Thousands of children and young people are expected to take part in the programme, which is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all.

Parents are already welcoming the return of the Summer of Fun, including Natasha Evans from Pontypool, whose daughter Bethany will be attending playscheme. Natasha said:

"It is absolutely fantastic the level of Play Support in Torfaen for the Summer holidays. My daughter absolutely loves it and will not miss a day in the summer. We are so lucky to have this free service in Torfaen."

Kieran, 14, who will be attending youth clubs at Ashley House in Cwmbran, and a day trip to Barry Island, said: “I love the summer, we get to do loads of exciting activities, try new things and make new friends.”

Some of the local organisations supporting this year’s Summer of Fun include Cwmbran Centre for Young People (CCYP), Torfaen Opportunities Group and Menter Iaith.

Cllr Richard Clarke, Executive Member for Children, Families & Education, said: "The summer programme aims to provide safe, engaging, and enriching experiences for children of all ages, including those with additional needs.

“We’re proud to offer such a diverse and inclusive programme that supports families and helps young people thrive during the summer holidays. Our teams have worked incredibly hard to ensure there’s something for everyone."
