Residents and motorists are advised of temporary road closures across Torfaen on Sunday, 12 July, to ensure the safety of participants taking part in the Mic Morris Torfaen 10K road run.
Around 1,200 runners have signed up for this year’s race, which starts at 9am in Blaenavon, with all participants expected to finish in Pontypool Park by 11am.
The following sections of road will be closed at the times listed:
- Blaenavon to Abersychan (junction of A4043 and B4246): 8:00am – 10:00am
- Abersychan Old Road to Hospital Road: 9:00am – 10:30am
- Hospital Road to Park Road (Salvation Army): 9:15am – 10:45am
Side roads will remain open, but no vehicles will be allowed on the race route during the event. Emergency services will always have access.
A full list of affected roads include:
- A4043 Cwmavon Road (from Prince Street/New William Street in Blaenavon to Old Road in Abersychan)
- Old Road
- Limekiln Road
- Freeholdland Road
- George Street
- Mill Road
- Hospital Road
- Northern section of Osbourne Road (up to Riverside)
- Riverside
- Park Road leading up to Penygarn Road

Ben Jeffries, event organiser from Torfaen Council, said:
“We’d like to thank the public for their patience with the temporary road closures. As in previous years, closures will be staggered to help minimise disruption, and roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Residents on affected roads will have received advance information to help them plan.
“We’re delighted that this year’s race has sold out, so thank you to everyone taking part, your support is helping to inspire and develop future athletes across Torfaen.”
All proceeds from the race will go to the Mic Morris Memorial Sporting Trust Fund, supporting young athletes in Torfaen.
