And Waunafon Bog is one of largest upland peat bogs in the South Wales Valleys.
Find out more about local biodiversity at the Go Wild event in Pontypool Park on Saturday 29 June between 10am until 4pm.
The fun day, which marks the start of Wales Nature Week, will include insect displays and bird box making as well as origami craft and storytelling.
Members of Torfaen Council’s Environment team will also be on hand to talk about our grassland management initiative, which is just one of the ways the council is working to address the climate and nature emergency.
Andrew Osborne, Group Leader, Natural Environment Policy and Streetscene Operations, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this year’s Go Wild event as members of the Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen Local Nature Partnership.
“There will be a wide range of organisations attending so come along to find out more about local nature and get involved in some fun events running throughout the day.”
“Our fly-tipping and litter prevention officer will be displaying the first-place winners of a recent litter sculpture competition, and our Environment team will be bringing along equipment used to manage our grasslands along for people to take a look at and will be running demonstrations.”
