Homeless

You don’t have to be living on the street to be classed as homeless. We may also be able to help if you are:  

• Likely to be homeless within the next 56 days
• Have been given notice to leave your home or accommodation
• Can only stay where you are temporarily
• Must move because of violence or threats
• Are living in overcrowded conditions
• Have been locked out of your home 
• Live in a caravan or houseboat but have nowhere to put it
• Your home is in such a bad state of repair that it is damaging your health
• Don’t have permission to stay where you are
• Forced to live apart from your family because your accommodation isn’t suitable for you all to live together

You can make a homelessness application by contacting the Housing Solutions Service on 01495 742303 / 742301 or housingsolutions@torfaen.gov.uk. 

You only need one homelessness application per household.   

You will be asked: 

• The circumstances that have caused you to become homeless or threatened with homelessness
• Your housing needs, and those of any person living with you
• Whether you, or any person living with you, needs support
• What you want to achieve from making the application

You will be asked to supply a list of information and supporting evidence to help us assess your application, such as ID for all household members and other information relating to your circumstances.  

A personal housing plan will be completed with you.  This will identify the actions the Housing Solutions Service will take on your behalf and the actions that you will need to take to improve your situation. 

What can you do if someone is sleeping rough? 

If you are aware of someone who may be sleeping rough, please contact us to let us know where they are.

There are many reasons why people sleep rough, so we ask people to respect their privacy and not share information about them on social media.
