Reading Groups

Have you ever read a book that made you laugh? Made you cry? Made you angry?

Reading Groups are places where people meet to talk about the books they have read, and share their reading experiences. It’s a way of trying new authors, and finding out how other people are affected by the books they read. Reading groups meet anywhere - in a library, in a school, in work, in a pub, or in someone’s home.

Junior and adult reading groups meet in Cwmbran, Pontypool and Blaenavon Libraries each month. There is also a teenage reading group which meets in Pontypool Library. Please contact the relevant Library for more information.

Torfaen Libraries can offer support to local reading groups in several ways:

  • Book Sets – a collection of multiple copies of books, available for use by reading groups in Torfaen. There are a wide range of different genres by various authors, but all are guaranteed to get a response!
  • Blaenavon, Pontypool and Cwmbran Library all have meeting rooms which can be used by reading groups. Contact your local library for details.
  • Librarians can recommend books for your reading group.
  • We can advise on setting up a new reading group.

Many publishers now provide readers guides to books for reading groups to use e.g. www.bloomsbury.com
