Positive Futures
Positive Futures is a new initiative which started in May 2016.
It is a sport and activity based social inclusion programme, funded predominantly by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Gwent along with partners such as Youth Offending Service, Sport Wales, and local authority contributing services such as preventions, social services, and education.
Managed locally through the Torfaen Sports Development Team in collaboration with Community Safety. Positive Futures aims to offer positive alternatives to substance misuse and anti-social behaviour through sport. Creating safer and more inclusive communities by building a culture of respect, while increasing youth volunteering and providing quality access to services for young people in their communities.
The projects strive to support the educational, personal and social achievement of young people by working together with partners and agencies. Any young person aged 9 - 19 living in Torfaen can use the service as can the young people referred by a broad range of agencies including those identified as 'at risk'.
The programme prides itself on forging partnerships with external organisations to deliver leadership and volunteering opportunities.
