Grave personalisation

We understand that for some relatives and families, graves are important places to remember their loved ones.

The following items are allowed to personalise graves:

  • Herbaceous plants max 50cm planted either side of lawn memorial headstones
  • Flowers or plants in containers either side of lawn memorial headstones
  • Temporary tributes for special occasions (contact office to discuss)
  • Memorials by BRAMM registered mason (must meet size requirements).
  • Small ornaments (not made from glass or ceramic)
  • Seasonal tributes

The following items are not permitted on graves for safety and environmental reasons and to ensure the tranquillity of the cemetery:

  • Items on grass in front or behind memorials
  • Moving, illuminating, or noise emitting items
  • Fences, edging, unattended candles
  • Glass, ceramic items, as these are easily broken/damaged
  • Artificial grass
  • Spiked ornaments in cremated remains/baby sections
  • Hanging items on trees or shrubs

Where can I place items?

If your loved one is buried in a lawn grave, you can put items either side of the memorial.

If they have a kerbset grave, the items must be placed inside the kerbs.

For cremated remains:

  • Blaenavon – either side of memorial only
  • Llwyncelyn & Panteg – either side of memorial and on chippings in front (do not encroach on other graves)

For baby graves:

  • Llwyncelyn – either side of memorial and on chippings in front (do not encroach on other graves)
  • Blaenavon – either side only

Non-permitted items

Grave owners will be contacted in writing and asked to remove any non-permitted items. Any items not removed will be taken away and held in storage for one month.

Any further not permitted items placed on the grave will be removed without notice.

Any items places near graves, including in trees and hedges, will be removed by cemetery staff.

Christmas wreaths will be removed by staff after 31 January.

Memorials

A memorial mason can advise on suitable memorials for your chosen cemetery. It is the responsibility of the grave owner to maintain a memorial. Any cleaning or repairs should be carried out by a memorial mason.

If cemetery staff see a memorial that looks unsteady, for health and safety reasons, they will place it down on the grave.

To request a memorial or additional inscription, you will need to contact a BRAMM registered mason

To purchase a memorial plaque on a cemetery bench, please contact the Cemetery Office.
