Economy and Environment works to provide a clean, green and sustainable environment and prosperous economy or residents and businesses in Torfaen. Our skilled and experienced staff are the backbone to public services in the borough. 

The Interim Strategic Director for Economy and Environment is Mark Thomas. 

The service is divided into the following areas: 

• Waste and recycling
• Environment
• Highways, climate change and energy
• Economy, assets, property and regeneration
• Planning and development
• Public protection

Mark Thomas has strategic responsibility for: 

• Waste and recycling 
• Highways 
• Climate change response 

Gareth Beer is the Head of Economy and Place and has responsibility for: 

• Asset management
• Planning (development control and planning policy) 
• Property maintenance and construction 
• Regeneration 
• Strategic economic development and external funding 

Daniel Morelli is Head of Public Protection and has responsibility for: 

• Food health and safety
• Trading Standards
• Housing, pollution enforcement and statutory nuisance e.g. noise
• Licensing
• Weights and measures
• Environment

Huw Roberts is the Statutory Chief Planning Officer.
