Torfaen Youth Forum

Members of the Torfaen Youth Forum

The Torfaen Youth Forum offers young people the chance to tell the council about issues that are important to them, and to contribute to decisions the council makes.

The forum is open to young people aged between 11 and 21 who live in Torfaen.

It meets once a month during the school term.

Members are recruited once a year through schools, youth clubs and community groups.

The current forum is investigating the following issues:

  • How to tackle vaping in schools
  • The need for a consistent policy regarding use of school toilets
  • Cost of school meals
  • How good behaviour in schools is rewarded
  • Increased recycling points in schools
  • Outdoor shelters in secondary schools
  • Dyslexia awareness
  • Community outdoor spaces for young people
  • Part-time work for 16 year olds.

The forum is committed to working with all young people regardless of gender, faith, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

For information about how the council is supporting young people to have a voice, view the Children and Young People’s Participation Strategy.
