Calling all children! Torfaen Play Service is launching a series of new Saturday play sessions starting this weekend.
The free Pop up and Play sessions for children, aged between five and 11, will run at Blaenavon Active Living Centre, West Monmouth School, Our Lady of the Angels RC School, Nant Celyn Primary and Blenheim Community Primary until the end of March.
The sessions will include arts & crafts, sports, young person led activities and toast and healthy snacks to keep energy levels high.
The new sessions are in response to a recent consultation for the council’s Play Sufficiency Assessment, which received contributions from over a thousand children under the age of 12.
The survey, which captured children’s play habits, views, and opinions, highlighted a common theme: a desire for more activities and things to do on weekends.
Councillor Richard Clark, Deputy Leader & Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “These new sessions are an excellent addition to the wide portfolio of play and recreational opportunities already available to children and young people in Torfaen.”
“It’s great to hear they’ll be run in partnership with the council’s Safer Torfaen & Community Safety Team and support our county plan objectives around providing more play and recreational opportunities for children, to aid their overall wellbeing and development.”
A new set of venues will be introduced from April to cover more areas of the borough, ensuring that every child has access to enriching and enjoyable play opportunities.
