A section of Hanbury Road in Pontypool Town Centre has reopened nearly a week ahead of schedule.
The road was due to be closed between Clarence Corner roundabout and Glantorvaen Road until Monday April 7 but reopened today - six days earlier than expected.
Bus services are due to return from today and schools will be informed. However, people are advised to check before they travel.
Hanbury Road toilets have also reopened.
The road closure was put in place to enable Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to divert a sewer and enable future town centre developments, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Additional work to replace the traffic lights outside the library and lay new electricity cabling to improve energy supply to the town centre was also carried out while the road was closed.
Cllr Joanne Gauden, Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said: "We understand the road closure has been difficult for residents, businesses and visitors and I'd like to thank people for their patience.
"I am pleased that not only has the project been completed early but additional work has taken place that would have required the road to be closed again in the future.
"The work will help to ensure that the infrastructure is now in place to enable Pontypool town centre to benefit from future investment."
Plans for the redevelopment of Hanbury Road toilets and Glantorvaen Road Car Park, part of the wider Pontypool Cultural Hub and Café Quarter project, were discussed by cabinet members on Tuesday April 1.
Work to return the Italian Gardens to their former condition will take place as part of the redevelopment of Hanbury Road toilets.
