Summer of Fun 2024

Thousands of children and young people are getting ready for an action-packed summer holiday.

The Torfaen Summer of Fun programme gets underway next week and includes a wide range of clubs, activities, family events and workshops run by different organisations.

You can find information about all the events on Connect Torfaen. Many are free to join but some will have a small charge and may require booking in advance.

Over 400 staff and volunteers from Torfaen Play Service will be holding more than 30 different clubs and activity sessions for children up to the age of 11, as part of the Summer of Fun programme

Around 2,500 children and young people are expected to take part in the different sessions every day including playschemes, food and fun camps and specialist respite sessions for children with complex needs.

This year, the service will be offering scooter and cycle training at all food and fun camps, funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund. The sessions will teach safe cycle and scooter use to help children travel more actively.

A range of excursions have also been organised by Torfaen Youth Service, as well as open access youth clubs and a youth festival at Ashley House, Cwmbran on Thursday 22 August.

Torfaen Early Years also gear up to deliver their Pop in and Play sessions for pre-school aged children and Baby All Sorts groups.

Cllr Richard Clark, Torfaen Council's Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “Our dedicated teams have worked tirelessly to yet again create a diverse and engaging summer of fun programme that caters to the interests and needs of all children and young people in our communities.”

“This work aligns with the council’s county plan wellbeing priorities, giving children the best possible start in life and opening them up to new opportunities and experiences.”
