Residents are invited to comment on plans for a new drainage scheme at The British site, prior to it being submitted for planning permission.
The proposals for the British Ironworks Drainage Scheme, in Talywain, follow extensive site survey and investigative work carried out during 2022 and 2023, and include plans for:
- Redirecting the Blaengafog stream and Castle Wood watercourse south of Farm Road and the creation of a reservoir and pond to store water. This will allow a more controlled discharge of surface waters from the site into the existing culvert network.
- Reprofiling of the land and associated landscaping.
Residents can view and comment on the proposed application between now and Friday 22 September 2023.
The proposed plans and other supporting documentation can be found at:
- Talywain Post Office, 79 Commercial Road, Talywain, Pontypool. NP4 7HX (Opening times: Monday – Saturday 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday 7:00 am to 12:00 pm)
- Garnsychan Partnership, 55 Stanley Road, Garndiffaith, Pontypool. NP4 7LH. (Opening times: Monday – Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm).

The British Ironworks Drainage Scheme forms part of the Phase 1 Works. This phase is essential to improve the safety of the site and is the first piece in The British Masterplan jigsaw. It's also part of the council's wellbeing objective to support local culture and heritage and make Torfaen a thriving, safe and attractive place to live and visit. The Masterplan for the site was developed in partnership with the community and stakeholders and was approved by Torfaen Councillors in November 2018.
This first phase has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
