Torfaen Young People's Music & Arts Trust

Torfaen has many young people excelling in the arts and performing at every level, with many showing enthusiasm and commitment as well as much outstanding talent.

This fund has been established to advance the education of young people in music and the arts, either through specialist courses, creative residencies, one-off courses and/or bespoke training achieved through an audition or  interview process.

The over-riding objective is to promote the social welfare of the young people of Torfaen and support their future aspirations.

Applications are accepted year round although application assessments will only be made annually at the end of May. Only one grant per year may be granted per applicant.

Criteria

Requirements:

• Be 25 or under on application
• Live in Torfaen
• Declare any financial assistance already received
• Display loyalty, dedication and commitment to music the arts which include drama, dance, art and design – include period of time interest pursued
• Have reached a recognised standard of achievement
• Declare reason for application – must be specific
• Have application supported by an appropriate professional referee
• Final decision rests with a quorum of the trustees who will have discretion in interpreting the above criteria
• Grants will only be considered for development opportunities ie specific courses, summer schools, bespoke training etc
• Grants for equipment or on going lessons will not be considered
• Grants will not be considered to fund ongoing/fulltime courses higher education courses

How do I apply to the fund?

You should read this page carefully and consider whether you meet the criteria. If you think you meet the criteria then you should apply for a Torfaen Young People's Music & Arts Trust grant. If you are in doubt about your eligibility you can contact the trust fund Administrator who will be happy to help you.

How will the fund allocate its money?

The distribution of grants will be decided by the Trustees.

What happens when my application is received?

The Administrator will check that your application meets the criteria. If it does, the application will then be considered at the next meeting of the Trustees for evaluation.

When will I hear about my application?

If you require an acknowledgement of your application you will need to contact the Administrator direct to confirm receipt of the form. Once the early June review meeting has taken place you will be informed of the decision of the trustees and the amount they may be prepared to grant you.

When will I know if I am successful in my application?

The Administrator will write to you in the week following the meeting.

If I am successful when will I receive the grant?

The Trust Administrator will send a cheque for the grant sum to you within 28 days. During the following three months you will be required to provide to the Trust Administrator copies of all receipts for the goods or services bought with your grant and return a completed declaration form. Alternative arrangements to this rule must be agreed with the Administrator.

If I am unsuccessful can I appeal?

The decision of the Trust is final.

Will I receive any publicity?

Yes, if it is desired. This may be in the local press, community newspaper or at a mayoral fundraising event. 

Are there any local businesses supporting the fund? 

Many local businesses as well as Community Councils and Councillors have been approached for financial support.

How are the funds allocated?

Applications will be initially considered against set criteria. If the application meets the criteria the final decision will sit with the Trustees.
