A primary school which hosts a parent and toddler group, organises regular litter picks and an annual dance festival has won a top community award.
Nant Celyn Primary School, in Cwmbran, has been presented with the Heart of the Community award by the Foundation of Community Engagement.
The school also received bronze, silver and gold for their commitment to community work.
Headteacher Keri Smith said: “To receive these four awards in one day is truly incredible. It’s a reflection of the hard work, compassion, and collaboration between our community lead Hannah Jones, our family liaison officer Tina Goodland, our staff, pupils, families, and community partners.
"We are proud to be recognised as the Heart of the Community – because that’s exactly what we strive to be.”
In April, Nant Celyn Primary was one of two to win the council's first ever Schools Spring Clean competition and between June 9-11, this year's Torfaen Dance Festival, organised by the school, will be held at the Congress Theatre.
In July, the school is organising a local eco march to raise awareness of environmental issues and later in the year, the school plans to set up a community food bank and cafe.
All community activities are linked to the school curriculum.
Year 6 pupil Seb said: "I’m a member of our Heddlu Bach mini-police group and our Eco Council. This year we won the inter-schools eco quiz and have worked with the council to help with the spring clean. We won that too!! We are really proud to make a difference in our community."
Alex, also in Year 6, added: "I am a young carer and Miss Goodland helped me find support outside of school. A few weeks ago I had a trip to Drayton Manor with other young carers. I had loads of fun."
Year 4 pupil Logan said: "I loved the science project I did with my Granddad. He came into school and we built go carts and launched rockets. We used our maths and science skills and I loved showing my Grandad our school."
Holly, also in Year 4, said: "I love taking part in the Torfaen Dance Festival that Miss Jones organises every year."
The Foundation of Community Engagement encourages schools to embedding community values into every aspect of school life.
Cllr Richard Clark, Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: "I'd like to congratulate Nant Celyn for achieving this award which is a fitting recognition of the school's dedication to its wider community."
