The award-winning social enterprise Halo Leisure will provide leisure services in Torfaen from today.
It marks the start of a new 10-year partnership with Halo following a previous contract with Torfaen Leisure Trust.
The charity will take over the management of leisure facilities at Cwmbran Stadium, Active Living Centres at Pontypool and Bowden, Fairwater Leisure Centre and Snowsport Torfaen.
Council Leader Cllr Anthony Hunt said: "As a not-for-profit organisation, we expect Halo to put people before profit and make a positive and long-term difference to our residents’ heath by encouraging physical activity and healthier lifestyles.
"This partnership will contribute towards our aspirations to tackle health inequalities and create healthier, happier communities."
Cllr Fiona Cross, Executive Member for Communities, added: "Sport and leisure services play a crucial role in delivering the objectives of our County Plan and wider Community Well-being Strategy.
"As a registered charity and social enterprise, Halo plough profits back into facilities and services so more people can be to be more active more often.”
Scott Rolfe, Halo’s Chief Executive, said: “We're delighted to be selected as the operational partner for these leisure facilities. Our social enterprise business model and registered charity status allows us to trade for social purposes, something the council recognised as a sign of quality and strength.
“We will work with the teams at the sites and the council to support even more local people to participate in some form of exercise, increase the range of activities available to them, and invest in the leisure facilities.
"We are confident that together we can transform services and facilities for the benefit of local residents and get more people more active more often.”
Over the past 20 years, Halo has managed leisure services in Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Gloucester, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Stratford and Wiltshire.
