Unpaid carers are being asked to submit photos as part of a project to help them feel part of a wider community.

The photos will be added to a large map of Torfaen and put on display to help mark Carers Week, which this year focuses on putting unpaid carers on the map. Post your photo and location on the Torfaen Adult Carers Facebook page by Friday 16 June.

Unpaid carers of all ages are also invited to take part in a walk at Cwmbran Boating Lake on Wednesday 12 June.

The 5K walk will start at 5pm from Northfields car park, near Oasis Leisure, in Croesyceiliog,  and finish at the Boat House Cafe, where there will be food and live music.

Anyone who would prefer to do a shorter walk can join at the South fields car park, in Llanyrafon, or from the Boa House cafe at 5.30pm.

Louise Hook, Torfaen Council Carers Support Worker, said: "Carers Week is a great opportunity for us to celebrate and thank unpaid carers for their hard work and dedication.

"We hope unpaid carers who have not previously asked for help will come along to the walk to meet our team and find out what support is available, as and when they need it.

"It's also a great opportunity to meet and share experiences with other unpaid carers."

A number of community events are also taking places as part of Carers Week:

* Gwent Carers Hub, Market Street, Pontypool, is holding events every day next week including Come Dance with Me on Monday, a Carers Open Day on Wednesday and a cream tea on Thursday. For more information, email gwentcarershub@ctsew.org.uk or call 01495 367564.

* Join Sporting Memories for a live musical performance by Pipe and Slippers, Tuesday 11 June, 11am-1pm at Cwmbran RFC. It's free to attend and refreshments are included. For more information, contact karen.burgess@dragonsrugby.wales or call Karen on 07939 154187.

If you are an unpaid carer and need extra financial support, you can apply for a Small Carers Grant. Visit the Adferiad website for information.
