More than 500 entries were entered into this year’s annual Christmas card competition run by Torfaen Play Service.
This week, 37 designs were shortlisted and the children were invited to a celebration event at Cwmbran and Pontypool Community Council offices where they were presented with play packs and a selection box.
Winners Freya Lawton, age 9, from Nant Celyn Primary School and Zoe Raine, age 9, from New Inn Primary will now have their designs turned into Christmas cards, and will be sent to all children who took part.
Councillor Richard Clark, Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “The creativity and enthusiasm shown by the children this year has been truly inspiring. It’s wonderful to see their designs come to life as Christmas cards. Congratulations to all the participants for their fantastic efforts!
“Our Play Service continues to provide high-quality and inclusive play opportunities for children and young people, supporting the council’s vision of making Torfaen a place where every child has the best possible start in life."
The awards were presented by Pontypool Community Council Leader Gaynor James and Cwmbran Community Council Leader, Leanne Lloyd Tolman.
Cllr James said: “What a fantastic result and incredible designs the children of Pontypool have put together. It's truly astounding to see the level of talent we have in our community.”
Cllr Lloyd-Tolman added: “The card competition is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to showcase their creativity, talent and imagination. It's a celebration of diversity, where every child's unique perspective is valued and embraced.”
The celebration comes as the Play Service announced a range of new sessions to run in the New Year.
Running on 2 and 3 January, Play and Activity sessions will be hosted at Cwmbran Stadium for children aged between 8 and 12.
Play and Respite sessions, for children aged between 5 and 18, and Fun and Wellbeing camps for children aged between 5 and 11, will also be held at different locations in the borough.
