Long Service Awards

In 2019, the Council took a decision to provide a long service award to employees that have worked continuously for 25 years or more for Torfaen CBC or its predecessor authority (Gwent, before Torfaen came into being in 1996).

In June 2023, the Chief Executive made the decision to also recognise 40 years’ service.

What is the award?

A gift voucher that can be spent on:

  • Fashion
  • Food & drink
  • Leisure & entertainment
  • High street stores
  • Home & electrical
  • Department stores

Do I qualify?

If you have worked for Torfaen Council (and Gwent Council pre-1996) for 25 or 40 years, have no breaks in service and have not had any relief/casual or supply teaching roles during that time, you qualify.

What is the process?

A quarterly report is run by Employee Services that identifies employees who have reached their long service milestones during the previous 3 months.

Managers are contacted and comments about the person’s time with TCBC are collected.

When comments have been gathered for the qualifying employees, a staff news bulletin is circulated, and the qualifiers will receive a certificate and their award voucher in the post.

This process usually takes around 3 months. The reports are run in January, April, July and October.
