Why we chose this dish
Our Pupils’ Choice
"It was nice and tasty" Inayah, Llantarnam Primary
Our Dietitian’s Choice
We regularly listen to feedback from our pupils, and many have told us they would like the flexibility to choose a vegetarian option on certain days without committing to a fully vegetarian menu. Our Quorn Vegan Sausages are a delicious way to do just that.
Made from mycoprotein and seasoned with herbs, these tasty sausages provide a source of both protein and fibre, helping to create a satisfying and nutritious meal. They offer a great alternative for pupils looking to enjoy more plant-based foods as part of a balanced diet.
Each meal is served with a choice of freshly cooked carrots and broccoli or reduced-sugar and reduced-salt baked beans, adding valuable fibre, vitamins and minerals while helping pupils increase their vegetable intake and work towards their 5-a-day.
Wholesome, balanced and packed with flavour, this popular plant-based meal provides the energy and nourishment pupils need to support a busy afternoon of learning.
Sustainable School Meals
Lower Carbon Impact Choice
All our recipes have had their carbon footprints assessed using methodology developed by researchers at the University of Edinburgh. Based on this analysis, choosing the Quorn Vegan Sausage meal instead of the fish finger option available on the same day results in a meal with approximately 75% lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Dietary patterns that include more plant-based foods are widely recognised as having a lower environmental impact than those relying more heavily on animal-based products. For pupils and families looking to make small, practical changes towards a more sustainable food future, this meal provides a lower-carbon alternative while still delivering the nutrition, taste and enjoyment expected from a school lunch.
