Why we chose this dish

Our Pupil’s Choice

"It was nice and tasty" Inayah, Llantarnam Primary

Our Dietitian’s Choice

Our delicious Quorn Vegan Sausages are a popular plant-based choice, seasoned with herbs and made from mycoprotein, providing a valuable source of protein and fibre. Nutritious, satisfying and full of flavour, they are a great way for pupils to enjoy a balanced meat-free meal.

Served in a soft bread roll, this meal provides carbohydrates for energy, helping pupils stay fuelled and ready for a busy afternoon of learning. As all UK flour is fortified with iron, the roll also contributes to a healthy, balanced diet.

Our oven-baked chips are a school meal favourite, offering all the enjoyment of traditional chips while being lower in fat and saturated fat than fried alternatives.

To help pupils work towards their 5-a-day, we encourage them to enjoy their meal with peas and sweetcorn, which provide fibre, vitamins and minerals. Alternatively, pupils can choose our reduced sugar and salt baked beans, another nutritious option that adds both fibre and plant-based goodness to their lunch.

A tasty, balanced meal that combines protein, fibre, energy and vegetables in one pupil-friendly choice

Sustainable School Meals

Lower Carbon Impact Choice

The carbon footprint of all our recipes has been assessed using methodology developed by researchers at the University of Edinburgh. Based on this analysis, choosing the Quorn Vegan Sausage meal instead of the beefburger option available on the same day results in a meal with approximately 5 times lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Increasing the proportion of plant-based foods in the diet is widely recognised as an effective way to reduce the environmental impact of food consumption. For pupils and families looking to make small, practical changes towards a more sustainable future, this meal offers a lower-carbon alternative without compromising on taste, satisfaction or nutritional value.
