Our Dietitian’s Choice

Our burgers are made with a minimum of 80% meat, providing a good source of iron and zinc—two important minerals that support growth, development and overall wellbeing. To keep them lower in fat than traditional fried burgers, they are oven baked rather than deep fried.

In line with Welsh Government school food standards, we carefully balance our menu and limit processed meat products, which is why this is the only meat product featured on the menu during the week.

Our oven-baked chips are a popular accompaniment, providing all the enjoyment of a traditional school meal favourite while helping to reduce fat and saturated fat intake compared with fried alternatives.

Served in a soft bread roll, the meal also provides carbohydrates for energy to help pupils stay fuelled throughout the school day. UK flour is fortified with nutrients including iron, making bread a useful contributor to a balanced diet.

To boost vegetable intake and support pupils in achieving their 5-a-day, we encourage them to enjoy their meal with peas and sweetcorn, which provide fibre, vitamins and minerals, including iron. Alternatively, pupils can choose our reduced sugar and salt baked beans, offering another nutritious way to add vegetables and fibre to their lunch.

Sustainable School Meals

Supporting Welsh Producers

Our bread rolls are produced in Wales, helping to support Welsh businesses, local employment and the wider food supply chain. Sourcing products closer to where they are consumed can contribute to shorter supply chains and reduced transport distances, while maintaining the quality and freshness expected in our school meals.
